Re: How to clean under Yoga 2 Pro keyboard?

Hey,

So I got my yoga  2 pro back in November and I've been loving it, especially the keyboard.

The other day, a friend of mine (and I'm not just hiding from embarassment when I say that, it actually wasn't me) spilled some sugary soda type drink onto the table my yoga was on! Fortunately I powered it off and got it away from the spill really fast so it only got on a corner of my keyboard.

The motherboard seems to be fine but the right arrow and PgDn keys are not sticky and feel really awful to press. They can't be hit very fast at all which is obnoxious because my typing style makes heavy use of those keys.

Does anyone know how I might fix this? Like, how might I clean out under those keys so they aren't sticky anymore? Without damaging the computer or keyboard?

Thank you!

It's a bit of work to get to it, but I would open the case on your Y2P and go about removing the keyboard from it before attempting to clean it. Look through the hardware manual for what's involved in getting at the keyboard.

Re: How to clean under Yoga 2 Pro keyboard?

I'm very much not comfortable. It looks like the keyboard is under a lot of very important components and while that's probably best for cleaning it, I feel like I would break other parts of the computer if I tried that. I was hoping it would be possible to safely remove the keys, clean under them, and put them back.

Just try not to mess it up....

I would say it's great pain to clean under.

What did you finally do? I am having the same problem.

Can the keyboard keys in the lenovo Yoga 2 pro be pulled out one by one to be cleaned without opening the whole pc?

Hi there---

I'm reviving this thread in the hopes that someone has the answer now that a year has gone past. I am facing a similar problem.

You may want to try either video head cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.  I simply dripped a small amount around the bad key then tipped the keypad to allow it to run under and used canned air to blow it out.  May have to repeat a couple of times.  Most video head cleaners are safe for plastics and electronics but check the can label.

Re: How to clean under Yoga 2 Pro keyboard?

I took the leap and pried off my letter v key with a razor blade. I was able to get the same key back on after cleaning under it, and it seems to work fine. I would recommend being very gentle and careful, though, because there are a few small plastic parts, that I imagine could be easily broken.

Underneath the key was a little white plastic machine that I think holds the key down. The key came off with this attached, so to get it back on I had to take the plastic machine off and attach it to the keyboard first with tweezers. Then the key snapped back on easily.

Try at your own risk, but know that it's possible!

You can very carefully stick in a small screw driver head, moving nearly parallell to the surface of the board. The trick is to get in between the key "shell" and the white scissor mechanism without breaking it..

I had a sticky key and after removing the shell, I found a fingernail. A fingernail! Moral of the story. Never clip your nails over your keyboard.
