Ps: the exact reference is

Lenovo IdeaPad 330 15 AST (81D200DTFR)

Hi there I just purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad 330 15ast from a local online store in France called cdiscount

It comes packed with ryzen 5 2500u Vega 8 plus 128gb ssd 1tb hdd A fhd SCREEN 3usb 3.0 port including one type c port rj45 gigabyte wifi ac by 4.1 and 35w battery. (really descent for 499e!)

The ram is ddr4 2400mhz according to specs but it is only 6gb among which 4gb are solded on mb and 2gb present as a stick on the only available ram slot on mb.

My issue: I know that 6gb won't be enough to my daily use and I'm planning to upgrade it in a very near futur.

Nobody at cdiscount or Lenovo France were able to give me a clear definitive answer to my concerns.

The product page on cdiscount says: memory slot available: 1.  Occupied : yes (2gb)

Max memory 16gb

QUESTION: This size limit of 16gb is it the max size accepted by the memory slot on this particular MODEL REFERENCE?

Or sadly the max size accepted in total by the system runned by windows 10 64bit (thought that 64bit windows wasn't limited by ram)

If this is the "system" limit then it means its  only possible to add a 8gb memory stick for a total of 12gb it's fair but you know... 16 would have been way better.

The ram is ddr4 2400mhz but is it cas 16 or cas 17? Thanks for answering that one too

Second question:

I've seen many videos on YouTube of people unmounting the case of the laptop to add memory. And also inserting an adapatator to add another ssd hdd at the place of the optical drive bay.

Can anyone tells me if the sata port that is free on this model I have (330 15ast  81D200DTFR) is effectively a sata 3 port which will give full 6gbs bandwith to a potential ssd or only sata 2 and in this case a hdd would be better as max bandwidth will be 250mbs?

Final question :

Is it possible to add optane memory instead of ram in the memory slot?

Thank you all in advance for your answers

And best wishes to Lenovo and all of you for the year 2019

Greetings from Marseille France.

Re: Max ram on ideapad 330 15AST (Ref:81D200DTFR) with 6gb ram(4solded on mb +2gb stick)

Hi Ben13003,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

16GB max ram is for those without soldered ram onboard.

Machine Type Model: 81D200DTFR shows for Ideapad 330-15ARR not 15AST.

12GB max is the OEM recommendation for that 330 15ARR, so replacing the current 2GB (@ CL = 17 (DDR4-2400)) with an 8GB DDR4 is the suggested upgrade path. (16GB max / 2400MHz DDR4, dual-channel capable, optional 4GB memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket for those without soldered ram.

For 330 15AST: 8GB max / 1866MHz or 2133MHz DDR4, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket.

Max rams mentioned are for the entire system as tested for certification.

Using the optical bay with a caddy is a possibility but we do not have much on confirmed success doing so. It does support both SATA II and III as mentioned in the hardware manual specs (page 27).

Optane memory supported in some variant 330 models (available in IKB type) uses an m.2 slot and may not fit best on the ram slots.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Re: Max ram on ideapad 330 15AST (Ref:81D200DTFR) with 6gb ram(4solded on mb +2gb stick)

Hey thanks for the answer!

Why is it that my seller present this laptop as 33015ast but gave me the reference 81D200DTFR

The specs are clear it mention 4gb colded and 2gb stick so I'll add 8gb stick at the place of the 2gb.

So the sata is sata 3 compatible its cool

No worry for optane memory

12gb will be fair for me.

Really strange that they present this model as ast if this is arr

Is it possible that my model is a very rare version of arr with ast spec ?

Re: Max ram on ideapad 330 15AST (Ref:81D200DTFR) with 6gb ram(4solded on mb +2gb stick)

Hi Ben13003,

Greetings.

Checking further in the parts lookup page it does show as a 330 15ARR with motherboard part number 5B20R34278 MBL81D2 R52500U UMA D4G WIN.

Main difference between the two is with the processor. Yours is a Ryzen 5 2500U.

ARR: AMD Ryzen 7 2700U; AMD Ryzen 5 2500U; AMD Ryzen 3 2300U; AMD Ryzen 3 2200U

AST: A9-9420; A6-9220; A4-9120; E2-9000; A9-9425; A6-9225; A4-9125

Other specifications can be the same depending on the build package.

So this must certainly be a mistake of the local online seller cdiscount!

Anyway

Thank you very much for the help and for the rapid answer

Best regards.

Ben.
